A Very Special Invitation
And Writing Prompt #92
Hi Y’all,
Well the summer heat is upon us and I hope you are enduring okay. Here’s an idea—set your clock for just after sunrise, go out and take a walk before it hits triple digits, work on your writing in your head as you walk, then come home to the a/c, sit your ass down in the chair and WRITE IT ALL DOWN. In the air conditioning.
Writing Prompt #92 If you were going to write a book, what would it be about? Or maybe you’re already writing a book, so tell us what that book-in-progress is about. Is it your life story? Is it a dinosaur romance? Erotica? A How-To Manual? If you are already working on it, maybe write down a bit about your process: Do you keep a schedule? What obstacles are you facing? What triumphs?
The prompt is inspired by Elizabeth Stansfeld’s latest book, Raging Bull. I met Liz when she started attending workshops at the Hampton Branch Library. She gave me a copy of her first book, The Italian Priest, and I loved it. I also love the new book.
I told Liz I wanted to celebrate her accomplishment and she has agreed to come to the ranch and talk about the new book and her process. Yay! So on July 11th, immediately after we wrap up Ranch Writing Day, I will be hosting a book reading and Q & A session. You’ll be able to buy the book at this reading. (You can also buy her books here.)
As we all know, writing itself is a solo activity. But then comes the connection part—between reader and writer. And also, I very much believe in publicly celebrating the triumph of a book seen through to completion. It is my great hope that you will make the time to attend this event. (It’s free). If you plan on coming to Ranch Writing Day that day, please stick around for an hour afterward. If you can’t make it to Ranch Writing Day, you are still welcome to show up for the Celebration of Liz at 1 pm.
As ever, there will be delicious pastries and coffee. Feel free to bring friends. The more the merrier.
Thanks!
Spike
INVITES
In July there will be TWO Ranch Writing Days— July 11 and 25th. These are donation based (suggested donation $20). I do need you to register at EventBrite since space is limited. It is FREE to register over there. HERE IS A LINK. Please help me get the word out about these gatherings.
My last workshop at the San Marcos Public Library is Monday June 29 from 10 am til noon. It’s free and wonderful. Just show up.
My workshops at Hampton Branch Library in Oak Hill are ongoing. Typically the first and third Tuesday of every month from 5:30-7:30 pm. FREE. (Occasionally, such as when there is a Tuesday election, the dates switch so it’s always a good idea to check their website.) You don’t need to register. Just show up.
