Hi Y’all,
Welcome to Writing Prompt(s) Tuesday. But first—I am really enjoying reading and responding to all of your comments and all of your writing contributions. Do me a favor—if you posted a piece of writing and I unintentionally missed it, please shoot me a note. I don’t want to miss a word. Thanks.
For this week I’m again sending two prompts. Feel free to offer feedback on this current format. I feel like offering a couple of prompts gives you some flexibility. As with last week, if you want to mash-up the two prompts, go for it.
Prompt #8: A Child
Write a story from your life involving a child. It could be you as a child, or some other child you knew as a child. It could be a child you brought into the world and/or raised. It could be a child you once spotted while people watching and invented a story for. Some personal life story with a kid in it. I know this is a broad prompt. I’m hoping the latitude is useful to y’all. If some of you prefer more specific prompts, let me know.
Prompt #9: A Game
Another broad prompt. Before you start writing I invite you to just let the word game roll around in your mind. Did you have a favorite game as a kid? Did you cheat at games? Did you know someone who cheated at games? If you know how to play chess, how did you acquire that knowledge? Are you someone who seems to attract people who play games in relationships? Heck if you want to, you can write about wild game.
I look forward to reading your submissions.
And here’s a heads up—On March 1, 2024 I am switching this substack to be for paid subscribers. $8 per month or $80 per year. I will still send out occasional free editions to all subscribers, paid or not. But if you want to fully participate, add comments, post your writing, etc, please do sign up for a paid subscription. Thank you so much!
I am not exactly writing to the prompt because I am simultaneously exhausted and behind on so much. But -- game made me think of The Westing Game, which I mentioned before. I have a copy coming, but I read the plot synopsis and it is bonkers! But what's interesting about it to me is that it involves a "mysterious benefactor," which I am a slut for! My current WIP has a woman who thinks she has a mysterious benefactor for decades and finds out something different later!
What a pig-tailed cutie! What's your age in that photo, Spike?
I'll have to upload my Mom's favorite photo of me as a kindergartner.
Thanks for the prompts, boss!🤓
